Praying the Sunnah Prayer at home or at the Masjid?

Silsilat al Huda wan Noor Tape 9, Question 9

The voluntary prayer of a man (in a place) where no person can see him equal to twenty-five times his prayer where people can see him. [1]

The superiority of the prayer of a man in his house over his prayer (in a place) so that people can see him, is like the superiority of the obligatory prayer over the voluntary [2]

I can’t wake my children up for Fajr prayer!

March 8, 2012 1 comment

I can’t wake my children up for Fajr prayer!
Advice from Shaykh Salih ibn Fawzan

Question:

Sister Umm Abdullah says: My children are teenagers and they are heavy sleepers Shaykh Salih. I am not able to awake them for Fajr prayer though I sit with them for hours. Should I just leave them alone considering that their father does not assist me with them.

Shaykh Fawzan:

It is obligatory upon the father to give importance to this affair and to assist in waking the children.  And do not leave them even if they are deep sleepers. Sometimes, perhaps they do not go to sleep until the last part of the night, this is a mistake. It is incumbent that they get sufficient sleep during the night so that they can awake refreshed for Fajr prayer. This will give them the ability to pray Fajr prayer; by going to sleep early and taking proper rest. Also the person should try to wake up for the night prayer and then the Fajr prayer, and if he is not making the night prayer then at the least he will get up for the Fajr prayer. And do not lose hope of their waking up and do not become tired of trying; this requires patience.

وَأْمُرْ أَهْلَكَ بِالصَّلَاةِ وَاصْطَبِرْ عَلَيْهَا

And enjoin upon your family the prayer, and be patient in offering them. (The prayers) (Soorah Ta-Ha: 20:132)

Thus this requires patience, and you should never abandon them; because if you leave them they will become accustomed to this. But if you persist in waking them up then they will be accustomed to waking up and giving importance to this matter.

Reblogged from Salaf-us-Saalih.com :: The Call of the Salaf is True Islam:

Bismillaah Al-Hamdulillaah wa salatu wa salaamu ‘ala rasulullaah Amma ba’d

The Ruku’ of the Messenger (sallaallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), by Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Umar Baazmool

Taken From the Book: Sharh Sifah Salatin Nabee‘ (Explanation of the Prophet’s Prayer Described)

What is the description of the rukoo’?

The description of the rukoo’ is that the individual bends his back and places his hands upon his knees; his back is to be level to the point that if a person were to come with a hollow plate and place it upon his back, it would remain in its place.

Sleeping after Fajr and Asr prayers – Shaykh Bin Baz

Sleeping after Fajr and Asr prayers

By Shaykh Bin Baz may Allah have mercy upon him

Question:

What is the ruling on sleeping after Fajr prayer, and does this harden the heart, and is it considered to be something which is evil? May Allah reward you with good.

Shaykh Bin Baz:

There is no harm in sleeping after Fajr and we do not know of any problem with it. That which has become widespread among the people that (sleeping after Fajr) is not good or it is this or that; there is no reliable proof for this. Thus sleeping after Fajr, there is no harm in this, and sleeping after Asr, there is no harm in this. But for the person to remain sitting in the prayer area after Fajr, reading, seeking Allah’s forgiveness, glorifying Allah, praising Allah and the like, until the sun rises, then this is better. This was what the Prophet used to do, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. And whoever leaves this off then there is no harm upon him. The one who leaves and goes to take care of his needs or sleeps or busies himself with other affairs then there is no problem with this. May Allah reward you with good.

The Permissible Distance When Passing by Someone Who is Praying (Sutrah Ruling) by Shaykh Uthaymeen

December 25, 2011 Leave a comment

Question:

What is the (permissible) distance in front of the one praying that someone is allowed to pass by?

Answer:

The distance at which it is allowed to pass by in front of the one performing his prayer, so long as he has a sutrah, is that area beyond the sutrah of the one praying. And if he did not have a sutrah, and was praying on a prayer mat, then the (entire) area of the prayer mat is not permissible for anyone to pass by. And if he did not have a prayer mat, then it is prohibited for anyone to pass by the area between his feet and his prostration area/spot.

“The one who prayed badly” (radhi-Allaahu `anhu)

December 25, 2011 1 comment

“The one who prayed badly” (radhi-Allaahu `anhu)

In Hadeeth and Fiqh literature, this term refers to the Companion mentioned in the following hadeeth of Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (Book of Prayer, English translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan); many other narrations of this incident are found in the various collections of hadeeth, and provide an important source of instructions from the Prophet (sal-Allaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam) regarding the correct way to pray:

Narrated Abu Hurayrah (radhi-yAllaahu `anhu):

The Messenger of Allaah (sal-Allaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam) entered the mosque and a person followed him. The man prayed and then went to the Prophet (sal-Allaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam) and greeted him; he returned the greeting and said (to him):

«Go back and pray, for you have not prayed.» The man went back and prayed in the same way as before, and then returned and greeted the Prophet (sal-Allaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam), who said

«Go back and pray, for you have not prayed», three times. The man said: “By Him Who sent you with the Truth, I cannot do so any better than this, so please teach me.” He said:

«When you stand for the Prayer, say takbeer and then recite what is easy for you from the Qur.aan (from what you know by heart); then bow until you feel at ease in rukoo`; then raise your head and stand up straight, then prostrate until you feel at ease in sajdah; then sit with calmness until you feel at ease, and do likewise in all your prayers.»

[further narrations of this hadeeth found in the other works of Hadeeth such as Sunan Abee Daawood, etc. contain further details.]
